What is Equine Guided Learning and Therapy?

This discipline originated from Riding for the Disabled programmes, where the positive psychological effects of interaction with horses were evidenced. It has grown into a specialist learning and therapeutic practice working with a variety of social and psychological issues and needs. These disciplines can range from problem solving, self esteem and relationship management, through to depression, anxiety, eating disorders, PTSD and major mental health titles.

There is no horse riding involved, and if you don't want to, you don't even have to touch the horse. The kind of practice and exercises we use will be designed for your personal session. What information you share is up to you, too. What is significant about these sessions, is that you explore the feelings that arise from being/working with the horse. Discussing how the session made you feel with the facilitator afterwards, will help you to learn more about yourself and how to change those things in your life that are preventing you from reaching your potential and finding your path towards peace. For more information, contact us via the form on our contacts page.

Why Horses?
Horses and humans have a unique relationship, these large and powerful animals allow us to engage them in work and recreation, and build strong, personal bonds with us. As both prey and herd animals, horses are highly intuitive and are able to tune into the feelings of others via their body language, energy and intentions. This is a mechanism the herd uses as a survival technique. It is this ability that makes horses so good at helping humans to identify and explore issues that are affecting and limiting our lives. Horses show us what we cannot see ourselves by mirroring our feelings, intentions and behaviour back to us in a non threatening way.
